Wards Creek Elementary School Students Raise Money for MABI
Mrs. Gard wanted to teach her students about money, saving and the gift
of giving. The children earned what they called Warrior Bucks by doing
chores and jobs they were assigned. Each week she paid them for their
job that they completed. When the kids got paid they had to put some
money in a savings account, some money went to a Charity, and the rest
of the money went to the class for things like a patio pass, extra time
outside, homework passes, and Movie passes. With the help of her teacher
and fellow classmates, Dy Ana Dye, a student at Wards Creek nominated
MABI to be the Charity to receive the money they raised after her 22 yr
old brother Patrick suffered a severe brain injury and the family
received one of MABI's tote bags. Mrs. Gard's class along with the
parents who turned the warrior bucks into real money raised a total of
$355.00 for Mothers Against Brain Injury and presented it to the founder
Tracy Porter as she spoke to the children about Traumatic Brain Injury
Prevention. An anonymous donor who was experiencing this catastrophic
injury with a loved one was told about what the kids were doing and
offered to match what they raised bringing the donation to $710.00.
