Tote Bag Program Expands to Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City
On August 7th Tracy Porter, Executive Director and Founder of Mothers Against Brain Injury will be providing Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City an In-Service Presentation on the Totes of Comfort and Hope Program. Bellevue’s Trauma and ICU will be informed as to the benefits of this wonderful program both for the families experiencing a Traumatic Brain Injury and the hospital staff caring for the patient. They will begin distribution of the totes immediately afterwards.

“I am just so grateful that Bellevue contacted me requesting our program”, Tracy said. “It is so rewarding to see additional trauma centers outside of Florida caring not just for the patient but also the families of this catastrophic injury. I am hopeful that with the expansion to NY and with awareness of our program, we may be able to expand further. “I feel tremendously blessed to be able to give to others what I did not have when I went through this experience with my own son in 2004. As I look back, it’s hard to imagine that over 2200 families have been provided Hope and Comfort through this program.”

Brooks Rehabilitation and the Jacksonville Jaguars Help Mothers Against Brain Injury
On May 3rd, Brooks Rehabilitation and the Jacksonville Jaguars presented Play Smart! Stay Safe!: a free, child safety event held at the Jaguar’s practice field to help children play safe and avoid head injuries. Kids aged 4-16 were custom-fitted for their very own sports safety helmet. There were activities for parents, too, with demonstrations on how to properly install child car seats. Those who received a helmet were asked to make a voluntary $5 donation to Mothers Against Brain Injury. This resulted in a total contribution to Mothers Against Brain Injury in the amount of $700. Jaguar players Vince Manuwai, Mike Peterson, D’Juan Woods, and George Wrightster, III were on hand to sign autographs and encourage the kids to wear their helmets. Jaxson de Ville also made a special appearance and signed helmets. Kids and parents alike enjoyed clowns, refreshments and various games. Approximately 300 helmets were distributed and a significant amount of money was raised for Mothers Against Brain Injury, making this first time event very successful. Children from Daniel and the Bosselli Foundation received helmets in addition to the hundreds more from the community.
